Andrew Alexander is a name well known in the theater, film and television circles as both a writer and a producer. Throughout his career he has produced over 185 different television shows, and co-produced deals with a large variety of big entertainment names such as United Artists, Imagine Films, MGM Television and Disney Studios. Alexander has also created programming for a host of television networks including HBO, Showtime, CBS, ABC, NBC, CBC, A&E, Comedy Central and FOX Television.
Born in London, England, Andrew Alexander moved with his family to Canada when he was seven years old. His education includes studying business at Tri-State College in Angola, Indiana from 1964 -1965 followed by attending Ryerson University in Toronto, Ontario from 1965 -1967. Before finding his place in the entertainment industry, Alexander worked for both the Thompson Newspapers and the Oakville Beaver Newspaper. He then became an editor for Ski Magazine, followed by working at the Global Village Theatre as well as the Toronto Arts Foundation.
Alexander is best known for his business “The Second City Entertainment Company” where he helped introduce the world to the stellar talent of some of the best known comedians during the 20th century. This includes Joe Flaherty, Martin Short, Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin, John Candy, Gilda Radner, Dan Aykroyd, Catherine O’Hara, and Dave Thomas. Alexander found much success with “The Second City Entertainment Company” until he stepped down in 2020.
Andrew Alexander is now semi-retired and resides in Tucson, Arizona.
